Genetic Risk Assessment for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Elevated Alanine transaminase (ALT)

What is Hepasense Screening?

It is a screening test that helps estimate the genetic predisposition of an individual to develop Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and elevated Alanine transaminase (ALT). The Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) risk is calculated from 245000 genetic markers implicated in the disease and is given as a validated Polygenic Risk Score (PRS). The elevated or high Alanine transaminase (ALT) risk is calculated from 559000 genetic markers implicated in the disease and is given as a validated Polygenic Risk Score (PRS).

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): Is a chronic liver disease that affects people who drink little to no alcohol. NAFLD is caused by an accumulation of excess fat in the liver.

Elevated Alanine transaminase (ALT): ALT is a liver enzyme involved in amino acid metabolism and energy production. Elevated ALT levels in blood may indicate liver is genetically more prone to liver cell injury, inflammation, or liver disease.

What is Polygenic Risk Score?

The score indicates if the individual is at high, moderate, or average genetic risk for developing Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and high Alanine transaminase (ALT).

The Polygenic Risk Score (PRS) quantifies the contributing effects of multiple genetic (DNA) markers into a score and estimates whether the tested individual is at a high, moderate, or average risk of developing a health condition.

Hepasense screening is validated for the South Asian population.

Who should take
the Hepasense Screening?

  • Individuals with a family history of NAFLD and/or high Alanine transaminase (ALT).
  • Individuals with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, obese/overweight.
  • Individuals with smoking habits and other unhealthy lifestyle.
  • All individuals above the age of 18 years

How will Hepasense help you?

Knowing the genetic risk for Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and elevated Alanine transaminase by Hepasense will help one to take informed decisions towards leading a healthy life. This screening test is helpful to identify the probable condition thus avoiding your disease progression resulting in complications, trauma, and treatments.

Hepasense report provides scientific recommendations which can help in taking preventive measures to mitigate the disease risk. The recommendations include lifestyle changes like engaging in physical activity, balanced and healthy diet, health monitoring by routine health checkup, enhanced screening, and scientific evidence on benefits of knowing genetic risk for a health condition.
